10.30.20 – Knives

October 30, 2020November 1, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Knives can only cut the flesh.
They cannot pierce the Paris soul.
COVID crushes the continent,
While France must face religious foes.

8.26.20 – Uncomfortably Numb

August 26, 2020August 26, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Below the waist
Is wasted nerve
Severed from shots
To the back
Blake lives
But others don’t

8.25.20 – Basketball Distractions

August 25, 2020August 25, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / 1 Comment

In Wisconsin—
Of all places—
The smoldering embers
Of George Floyd’s murder
Were slowly cooling.
But with one
Flash of gasoline—
Shots to the back—
Kenosha erupts in flames.

The attraction of basketball,
In a far-off magical place,
Distracts and detracts from
What matters most of all.
We must suspend our attraction
Till this ends
And Black Americans
Can sleep.

8.24.20 – Be Safe LA

August 24, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Between a rock
And another larger rock
Sits Louisiana.
Two storms approach
In unprecedented fashion.
Stay safe LA.

8.6.20 – Atomic Anniversary

August 6, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Three score
And fifteen years ago
Our fathers brought forth
To the Asian continent
Death.

A drop of destruction.
A mushroom of mortality.

What sits in that hole
Are the ghosts of decision
And Peace Memorial Park.

8.5.20 – Beirut

August 5, 2020August 6, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Beirut’s shock wave stops
Lebanon’s heart. Explosions
Delivered by ship.

7.28.20 – Lives

July 28, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Unseen, a virus,
Marches through
Killing six hundred
Thousand.
More visible
Is fire
Blazing past
Killing over three
Billion.

7.9.20 – Kayne Promises Kanye Things

July 10, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Twenty-twenty three
President Kanye takes a knee.
Musk at his side
The final COVID patient dies.
Kanye promises Kanye things.

6.3.20 – Foreign Storms

June 3, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Mumbai hit by
Historical storms.
One hundred thousand leaving.
Cyclones pounding, heaving
Nisarga and Amphan
From ocean to land.

5.21.20 – Are We Lucky or Are We Dancer?

May 21, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

When is it good luck,
And when is it less bad luck?
Amphan was more mild.
