1.1.201 – Dull

January 1, 2021January 4, 2021 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

My eraser is dull
From writing ‘0’
And not ‘1’.
2020 was a year to forget
But one that I won’t.
The paper is littered
With pink shavings,
Growing brittle
With each swipe.
But zero’s written in ink,
And my pencil does no good.
It will take weeks to adjust,
But years
To heal.

11.27.20 – 1-800-273-8255

Words spoken to a Void
Are no more words than
They are vibrations.
Over two thousand folks
Spoke alone to the Void
Just yesterday
And today
And tomorrow.
Our hands are nearly as deadly as roads.
I propose an ear to hear
What’s troubling you.
An ear
To pull you back from the edge of the Void.

11.20.20 – Beginning of Ends

And like that
The Afghanistan battles
Became fodder for the future
Conflicts rising from the Taliban.
Removal of troops is not conducive
To peace
Rather it welcomes creeping people
To the fill the vacuum that’s released
Into the heart of conflict,
Afghanistan, the Middle East.

War is just beginning
When the US pulls out troops.
A war that’s never ending
Never ends—
A bloody truth.

11.13.20 – Ms. Vice President

November 13, 2020November 15, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Kamala did it
She’s arisen to VP.
But not by be’ng Dem.

11.6.20 – Election Limerick

November 6, 2020November 6, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

The US must choose Trump or Biden
But some states’ ballots be hidin’
Because it’s been three days
And there still is a haze
As to which old white man will reside in

….The White House.

10.30.20 – Knives

October 30, 2020November 1, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Knives can only cut the flesh.
They cannot pierce the Paris soul.
COVID crushes the continent,
While France must face religious foes.

10.23.20 – Lagos Goes to La Streets

October 23, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

SARS—no not that one—
Brought Lagos to the streets.
Fuck daylong curfews.

10.16.20 – Da Bait

October 16, 2020October 17, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

A hurricane of debate
Rained down on a judge
While the two viewed
To need it most
Hid in town halls
Far apart.

10.9.20 – Pretty Fly on a White Guy

October 9, 2020October 12, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

I sit here atop
The head of Mike Pence
Thinking about
How I ended up where I am.
Some of my sisters
And both of my brothers
Would be proud of me
For making it so high
In the political world.
But not Dad,
Who once sat on Trump’s top.
There’s no pleasing parents.

10.2.20 – Infected

October 2, 2020 / Christopher Unterberger / Leave a comment

Be open or closed?
Confirm Barrett or delay?
Play football or not?

Debate all you want,
But presidential COVID
Casts shadows worldwide.
