Through stuttered stops
and exposed throat
on a bitter Winter day,
the president
took the oath
to serve
and then to say:
Unity! Unity!
We must not be divided.
America must rise and raise
behind our leader,
Joseph Biden.
There’s far to go
and much to gain.
It will be tough—
there is no hiding. But
Tomorrow’s Americans will write:
The States,
They were United.
Month: January 2021
1.15.21 – Impeach Me Once, Shame on You. Impeach Me Twice, Shame on Me.
History was made
When Trump faced impeachment.
Historically
He faced a deed
Of which his fore-peers had succeeded.
And so did he,
Or so we’d think,
Until his people screamed and shouted
At the Capitol.
And now we know
Mr. Trump has been indicted.
1.8.21 – Rush
Up the stairs and past the guards,
Break the windows,
Now you’re in
The Capitol
That holds the House,
Senate, Dems,
Republicans.
Poach the podium
and Bill of Rights.
But do it quick,
Our lines are thin.
This pointless coup
Is all for you.
Please don’t let
The liberals win.
1.1.201 – Dull
My eraser is dull
From writing ‘0’
And not ‘1’.
2020 was a year to forget
But one that I won’t.
The paper is littered
With pink shavings,
Growing brittle
With each swipe.
But zero’s written in ink,
And my pencil does no good.
It will take weeks to adjust,
But years
To heal.
